2008 Red Label Wine Dancehall Queen Competition Gets into High Gear
With less than two months to go for the twelfth staging of the Red Label Wine International Dancehall Queen Competition, organizers, sponsors and promoters are moving into high gear to ensure that patrons once again experience the rhythmic and energy-filled side of dancehall.
Promoter Brian “Big Head” Martin, is pulling out all the stops, as he unleashes the dance talent of young ladies from all four corners of the earth. He beamed proudly as he informed us of the regions from which contestants have already been booked for the show. “Similar to last year’s show, there are entrants already confirmed, from the United States, Canada, Italy, Poland, Japan and Jamaica. In Europe we are represented by Pirates Production , the Italian promoter of European Dancehall Queen Contest , to book the European girls for the Jamaican competition. We have also been contacted by enquiries from Africa and we might just have one girl from the Middle East. As you know from previous shows, the crowd always looks forward to the overseas contingent, and this year we are trying to ensure that they get more than their money’s worth” said Martin.
He went on to state that a flurry of activities have been planned for the contestants this year, in an effort to expose them to more of the Jamaican culture and lifestyle. “We are in the process of planning several courtesy calls on members of the business and Government communities in the city, as well as cocktail parties, dinners and media interviews and features with the girls. There schedule (he continued) is going to be a hectic one, but patrons will be guaranteed that once the girls hit the stage, the energy will transcend to everyone in the audience.”
He beamed proudly as he made special mention of his title sponsor, whose three-year contract comes to an end this year. When asked who will assume that position next year, Martin smiled and said “Red Label Wine has been an absolute pleasure to work with, and my team and I are ready to re-enter another lucrative contract, with them. When you have a relationship that is fruitful for all involved, you go the extra mile to ensure that all parties involved, benefit from the association.
The twelfth staging of the Red Label Wine International Dancehall Queen Competition, will be held on Saturday July 26 at the Pier One Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay.
